Where the domain knowledge comes from
Most software companies learn a client’s business during the project, on the client’s time. We built the team the other way round. Alongside engineers, HSK Techlab has people who have worked in the sectors we build for — trade, operations, healthcare, education and logistics.
It shows up in small, expensive details. Knowing which figure gets checked first on a contract note. Knowing that a shift roster is never as simple as the org chart suggests. Knowing which step of a process everyone quietly works around, because the last system made it unusable. Those are the things that decide whether software is adopted or merely installed.
It also sets how we work. We are a small team that ships and maintains its own products, so we are unusually unsentimental about scope: the cheapest system to run is the one with the least in it.
